I know I've been treating this here website like a stepchild but I truly have been on the go putting things into perspective. And even though I have been performing, I haven't really been posting it here. Don't know why but.......forgive me. Ok so today is "Music Monday" on Twitter, so I decided to do my own Music Monday here on my website. I am really proud of the scene that is slowly but reassuringly growing within the South Florida area. Two event coordinators/promoters, Safon Floyd of Rough Draft and Terri Meredith of Voicez and Vybez, have approached me to perform at their spots and I am soooo ECSTATIC!

7:30-10:00pm The first stop will be at The Rough Draft held at Transit Lounge in Downtown Miami hosted by the wonderful Miss Safon Floyd. You have to be there to see the magic that is composed and brought to life at this venue. This event is only held once a month so you don't want to miss this or you'll have to another whole 30 days. Don't do that...be there!

10:30 Around this time I should be arriving at Voicez and Vybez located in the Fort Lauderdale area to greet the Fabulous Terri Meredith. I have never been to this spot but I have heard SO many good things so I am looking forward to it! I will be featured there along with George Tandy Jr and Kalo. This should be a wonderful night cap.

So Im sitting here trying to find something to get myself into and all of a sudden, a name for my album pops up in my head: In my own world. The name actually fits me and where Im at right now in my life. I'm in my own world....literally. Even though I still find time to put into my music, everything else (except my daughters) is pretty much...null. I have so many things floating in this here head of mine that I can not really be concerned with much of what's going on around me. Lyrically the words in my mind are constantly spinning, giving me so much to say. With that being said this precious,fragile, undeveloped piece- my baby- my album is going to be a great one...I promise. You'll get a chance to see what's going on in my head when little is being said from my mouth because trust me....you haven't heard anything yet. I finally get to bring her to life: In my own world.....

Soul-singer/songwriter provides cure to South Florida music lovers

MIAMI –The word about soul-singer/songwriter Shawnnette “Rimidi” Longley’s captivating, live performances has been spreading like wildfire throughout the south Florida region.

Rimidi will be performing live at Jazid’s “Soul Candy” event (1342 Washington Ave.) on July 23 for a two-hour set in between the hours of 11:30 p.m. – 2 a.m. Rimidi will be accompanied by her live band Late Bait, a four piece band which consists of a guitar player, bass player, keyboardist and drummer. Their set is filled with alternative soul originals written by Rimidi and many popular cover songs are included in the lineup by Aretha Franklin, Erykah Badu, Jimmy Hendrix, Jill Scott and Sade.

The purpose of the event is to provide a platform for independent entertainers to showcase their talents and this is one of many events between Rimidi and Jazid.

“As an aspiring songwriter/singer it can be very difficult and extremely competitive when trying to seek and book shows, so to have a place that I have multiple sets and a following is truly humbling,” Rimidi says. “I get such a great vibe when I perform there.”

RIMIDI ft. my band "Late Bait"

I bet you're wondering why I call them "Late Bait"....lol. Long story...I'll tell you guys one day. But in the mean time, if you're looking for a GREAT time filled with GREAT music, Jazid is the place to be on Thursday, July 23rd. I will be performing LIVE along with my band. I must say that I enjoyed myself @ Miami's new venue, 3toothree. It's a real upscale spot in which they only accept the hottest of the hottest to enter. I am def hot...but upscale....in a cool kind of way yes. I'm not too big on the whole dressing up kind of thing lately though. I just like to rock the simplest gear, pack on some accessories, and then off I go. I'm still sexy either way :) But yea....check the video that I posted for you above. I am sure that you will enjoy. I've just been busy putting all things into perspective. I know you can definitely relate to this. Sometimes, so many things are going on at once that I just need a moment to........BREATHE. There...so now that I got my chance to breathe...I'm back. One things for sure, I have been completely addicted to Twitter. Twitter is a CERTIFIED CRACK @ its FINEST! I can't believe how much time I spend throughout my day twittering my life away. If you want to know what's going on with me, TWITTER is definitely the place to find out. LOL.

Claiming Mine...

Loving this music world Im so heavily floating in!!! I'm finally back at it. If you didn't know, I dislocated my knee TWICE!!! Yea...TWICE!!! So, uh, yea...it had me sitting on the sidelines for awhile unable to get out and do my thing- perform. Two months in a brace and out of commission but now Im back!!! With that being said...let me know what you think about my music, my shows, and anything else you want me to know. I'm super ready to hear the things that's on your mind! Rimidi Out of Commission???

Currently I am out of commission due to an injury to my knee. Yes...my knee. I am very aggravated because I cannot perform as I would like to, yet I am trying to keep still. My knee dislocated on me twice so now my ligaments are torn. I know, I know...yuk! LOL! But this gives you ample time to miss me and for me to miss entertaining YOU= my lovely and loyal fans! This is giving me MAD motivation to get out there and give you a great show once my healing process is up. So until I see u again...wish me a successful recovery. Many blessings to u. I can't wait to ROCK the house when the time comes! By the way...check for my upcoming shows in MAY. You don't want to miss any of them!

The Apple Martini's Rule

Here's a Rule: Never drink martinis all night long!

I had the greatest night ever last night! Me and vocalist, Brittany Starr James (http://www.myspace.com/brittanystarrjames), hopped from one venue to another. First, we hit up JAZID where I performed and then headed over to The Florida Room to check out comedian Rocco where I ended up performing with the wonderful, Big Brookyln Red. From there I went on to LoveHate to show my love and support to Rahsaan (emcee- http://www.myspace.com/rahsaan1) and Mark Gordon- promoters of the venue that night. While in the mist of all this, I was sippin on Apple Martinis at each venue-the Florida Room made it the best! I am not much of a alcohol drinker these days though so I try to sip on wine whenever I need a buzz but still, I was feeling this apple martini hard! I was feeling it so hard that I almost sponsored it as my new drink for my nights out on the scene. But after sleeping until 4pm this afternoon and still waking up with a hangover- I think NOT! Rule for you reading this blog entry- unless you can hang- NEVER drink martinis all night long. I think one is enough! Yes, I must admit it gave me the best feeling ever while sipping on it. And yes, I am happy that it didn't cause me to pass out or broadcast things to the world that I shouldn't say. Waking up with a massive headache at 4 pm the next day, later than I usually would, is more than enough reason for me to say "Goodbye Apple Martinis!"

Rimidi VS my Vocal Chords!!

After singing my life away, I now have no voice. Now ain't that a -beep-!A friend of mine, vocalist-Michelle Forman, told me to try Throat Coat tea. This tea is supposed to be really good at soathing your vocal chords and getting your voice back. Well...I really hope it works because this is the worst. I have a performance coming up this Wednesday @ JAZID so I really need to be ready so let's keep our fingers crossed. Ill def keep you guys posted on the outcome of this new found remedy. By the way, if you're looking for something to do this Wednesday, March 18th- come out to JAZID and watch a great show! I will be featured along with many other HOT vocalists doing a special tribute to some of the BEST SOUL artists from back in the day. Please come out if you can. And pray that I make it to GNC to grab me some THROAT COAT tea bc I need it! Hey...??? ...maybe I should have them pay me some mula for giving them such promotion! J/k...or am I? Seriously though...hopefully this will be a new found "remedy" for the RIMIDI...lol Here's to Throat Coat tea....

On the go...

So right now I am trying to relax because I have definetly been on the go this month. I just did a show last night at Jazid and one the night before at Vagabond-which is a VERY hot spot by the way- and I am EXHAUSTED! But all in the same breathe, I love it! After I take this nap (although I know that's not really going to happen) I will be heading out to the Innerlook to perform. This is a spot that I just recently heard about but, nevertheless, I was invited to come out and do my thing tonight so I'm looking forward to it. Tonight is just a short acoustic set of one or two songs. After a job well done...here's to my feature. I'll keep you guys posted on the show since I know that you won't get this blog in time since I just created the site altogether.

Who is Rimidi?

Simply put: "There's is no Rimidi without music or music without Rimidi". Born and raised in Miami, Florida, aspiring singer/songwriter/vocal arranger Rimidi is indeed a long awaited remedy for the music industry. She has known since she could hum along to the sound of a melody that music has been her destined passion. After realizing that music was what she wanted to do, her mother placed her into her church choir. Unfulfilled by the quality of her church choir, Rimidi seeked for other routes which lead her to auditioning for Dr. Michael M. Krop High School's STAR ACADEMY performing arts program in Miami, FL. Rimidi was accepted into the school and that was then we she as an artist and songwriter began to procreate. She formed a girl singing group that consisted of 5 members and wrote all of their songs. She used this time to experiment on writing and creating harmonies and melodies. After schedules began to conflict and less commitment arose, Rimidi decided to seek her own route as a solo artist. She then attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL as a music major but spent most of her time there seeking musical guidance and experimentation. With a mother who insisted that she took the other route away from the musical road, Rimidi consistently battled herself as the average Jane and became known as the rebel when she dropped out of college to follow her passion full time. Rimidi began working with local artists, writers and poets to help form her craft into what it is today. As a member of the M.O.S.T, a writer's camp directed and created by Grammy Award singer, Betty Wright, she is still learning how to recreate herself in all aspects of music. Currrently Rimidi is putting together a demo album to promote herself as an artist as well as a songwriter. In addition to building her network with other local artist and industry connects, Rimidi's primary goal is to become a songwriter for various artist and be known and admired for her work throughout the country, no matter the genre. Inventing and reinventing music that is a liking to the all if the ears listening and performing it, is her the dream that she is bringing to life. Recently, Rimidi has performed at many local venues in the Miami area including JAZID, Mahogany Grille, The Innerlook, The Literary Poetry and Lounge, etc. and is currently looking to expand throughout South Florida at other venues to spread recognition of her name and talent. Music is Life. Life can't get any better than this with Rimidi bringing the music. Stay tuned, for there is more to come..... The key is to look outside the box and never be scared to do you. Don't allow yourself to be programmed bc they say this is the way it supposed to be. There is no manual script, life is unpredictable and only God has control so just ask and have faith that he will come through. Use that in every aspect of your life...especially w music..
